Hypernuit was born from the desire to create an exhibition based on the collections of the Capc Musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux and the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA, which have rarely been brought together throughout their history. Hypernuit also takes place within a particular context, that of the Base sous-marine, which this exhibition inhabits both as a cinematic black box and as a resonance chamber for forgotten or hidden memories.

Acknowledging the recent pandemic and the intimate and collective upheavals it has brought about, Hypernuit presents itself as an experience of disruption — a sign of a present marked by fragments of the past and glimmers of the future, imbued with anxieties, mysteries, and dreams. Echoing the question Che Fare? (What is to be done?), posed by Mario Merz’s work at the entrance to the exhibition, this uncertain present calls upon us collectively to confront reality as much as to re-enchant it.
Most of the works on display thus oscillate between interior and exterior, darkness and light, intimate space and social space, official history and personal narratives. These pieces, rich in emotional or sensory resonance, play with effects of light, relationships to the night, and to history.
The Hypernuit exhibition unfolds like a horizon line, evoking our ability to transcend reality when it is no longer enough. It makes tangible a phrase taken from the work of Marianne Mispelaëre: “Something is beginning to crack before our eyes.”
