Echoing the exhibition by Takako Saito and as part of the 2019 FAB festival, the British ensemble Apartment House will interpret pieces from the main actors of the Fluxus movement, such as George Brecht, Alison Knowles, George Mačiunas, Yoko Ono, etc.
Playing on randomness and indecision, the Fluxus works will be successively – and sometimes simultaneously – performed by four musicians, to end with a major piece by John Cage, whose work is at the origin of the movement.
Between audio creation and performance, each piece of the repertoire that is played by Apartment House was selected to highlight the musical, humorous, quirky and radical dimension of the Fluxus pieces, but also to display, depending on one’s own perception, its pathos, strength of revelation and “existential tragedy”.

For almost 25 years, Apartment House has been exploring experimental and contemporary music through innovative and fascinating performances.
Apartment House has travelled throughout the world, creating many recordings and radiophonic projects. Interested in wide audiences, Apartment House has participated in many international festivals (Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, MaerzMusik, Wien Modern, Ultima) and has also been shown in artistic institutions and art galleries (Serpentine Gallery, Turner Contemporary, Whitechapel Gallery). In 2014, the ensemble created Musical Scoring Systems, the first album of musical pieces by George Mačiunas, the Lithuanian-American artist, founder of the Fluxus movement.
