Guan Xiao

Weather Forecast

As part of Our Ocean, Your Horizon, a proposal for the Satellite programme 2016 by Heidi Ballet.

The video Weather Forecast by the Chinese artist Guan Xiao opens this programming at the CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux.

A pivotal point in Guan Xiao's practice is the idea that everything in the world is permanently transforming. Her three-channel video Weather Forecast visualizes the personal change that someone who travels goes through, a process with a volatility that she compares with the fluctuation of the weather. She reflects about the conditions for this change: is a geographic expedition necessary, or would a series of perceptions, experienced while staying in the same place, have the same effect? The introductory work How To Disappear tests the reliability of this experiential cognition in order to prepare the visitor for a sensory immersion.

Curator: Heidi Ballet

Guan Xiao was born in 1983 in Chongqing province in China.
Guan Xiao’s works have recently been shown in, among others places, the Lyon Biennial (2015), the Third New Museum Triennial, New York (2015), ICA, London (2015), Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna (2015) and M HKA, Antwerp (2014).
