As part of the exhibition that it is devoting to the independent publishing house Beau Geste Press from 2 February to 28 May 2017, the CAPC musée d’art contemporain in Bordeaux is organising a Study Day on Wednesday 29 March.

Devised by the curator of the exhibition, Alice Motard, this event will posit Beau Geste Press as a model of artistic production, reproduction and dissemination that anticipated the Internet. It will open with a synoptic presentation of the history of this publishing house active in the 1970s (including its protagonists, characteristics, technical equipment and operating methods). It will then analyse how Beau Geste Press used the postal system to develop a worldwide collaborative network. Finally, the Study Day will problematize the economy of artists’ books, from their handmade production as at the time of Beau Geste Press to their most recent incarnations in the digital age.
